The Defense
Hooky anthems for a generation raised on broken promises...
The Defense is the brainchild of Dane Scozzari — a one-man emotional riot channeling the spirit of projects like Tame Impala, where the “band” is really the vision of a single obsessive creator. Serving as songwriter, producer, vocalist, drummer, and multi-instrumentalist, Scozzari leads The Defense from behind the kit, a role he believes deserves far more representation in modern music.
Blending pop punk urgency, emo vulnerability, and flashes of neo-funk groove, The Defense delivers hook-heavy anthems for a generation raised on broken promises. The songs wrestle with the anxieties, frustrations, and emotional exhaustion facing Millennials and Gen Z in an era of economic instability, performative culture, and collapsing institutions — balancing sharp wit with genuine desperation.
The name The Defense draws inspiration from La Défense, the Paris district originally built as a fortified military defense and later transformed into a futuristic corporate hub. The phrase itself carries layered meanings — legal defense, military defense, defending an argument — but for Scozzari, it ultimately represents a personal mission: defending his honor against both internal doubt and external criticism.
The band’s debut EP, slated for a Summer 2026 release, features Dante Caroselli on guitar and bass. The record was recorded by Dane Scozzari and mixed/mastered by Sam Carlson at Sans Serif Recording.
